Detailed Outline for the "Writing in Petra" workshop.

Below you'll find the day-by-day plan for your workshop.  As you'll see, we've combined an intensive writing experience with the chance to explore some of the world's most spectacular venues, Petra and Wadi Rum.  The sites we'll visit and the unique experiences we've incorporated will provide sensory stimulation for the writing exercises you'll work through.  Learning to translate new sights, new tastes, new smells and new encounters into a written record will jump-start your creative urges and fine-tune your professional writing skills.

Day 2 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30-10.30 Writing exercise
    11.00 Set off for first visit to Petra, entering through the Siq and visiting the monuments of the city center.
    13.00 Lunch at Basin Restaurant inside the ruins.
    14.00-15.30 Writing exercise
    16.00 Climb to ad-Deir, Petra’s largest carved façade. Descend at your leisure and make your way back to the hotel.
    19.30 Dinner buffet
    21.00 Read-aloud session

 

Day 3 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30-10.30 Writing exercise
    11.00 Return to Petra by the “secret road” to the High Place of Sacrifice.
    13.00 Enjoy picnic lunch at the High Place.
    14.00-15.30 Writing exercise
    16.00 Descend Wadi Farasa to tour the Great Temple excavations. Make your way back to the hotel at your leisure.
    19.30 Dinner buffet
    21.00 Read-aloud session

Day 4 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30-10.30 Writing exercise
    11.00 Horseback excursion to Jabal Harun, with a short climb to the Tomb of Aaron.
    15.00 BBQ lunch alongside the pilgrimage hostelry excavations.
    16.00 Descend by horseback and return to hotel.
    19.30 Dinner buffet
    21.00 Read-aloud session

 

Day 5 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30-10.30 Writing exercise
    11.00-14.00 Free time to explore Wadi Musa. Lunch on your own.

Day 6 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30 Depart to Wadi Rum for jeep tour.
    14.00 Lunch at campsite.
    15.00-16.30 “Unplugged” writing exercise  (no electricity is available, so please plan accordingly!)
   

17.00 Read-aloud session
    20.00 Dinner and Bedouin music under the stars
 

Day 7 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30-10.30 “Unplugged” writing exercise

    11.00-14.00 Camel safari to al-Khazali
    14.00 Lunch at campsite
    15.00-16.30 “Unplugged” writing exercise
    17.00 Free time to enjoy the desert.
    20.00 Dinner and storytelling under the stars

Day 8 Working Session
    06.30-08.30 Breakfast buffet
    08.30-10.00 “Unplugged” writing exercise
    10.00 Jeep transfer to Rum village. Return to Petra.
    13.00 Lunch at hotel.
    14.00-16.00 Writing exercise
    16.00-20.00 Free time
    20.00 Dinner and workshop wrap-up.

Day 9 Individual Sessions with Writing Mentors
    06.30-09.30 Breakfast buffet
    10.00-16.00 Check the posted list on the hotel notice board for your individual one-hour session with the workshop mentors.
    18.00 Visit the PLETH Heritage Museum for a private tour of the exhibition of Bedouin artifacts. Enjoy a farewell dinner under their rooftop Bedouin tents.

Day 10 Departure
    Independent departures after breakfast; special late check-out arrangements are available on request. Please complete and turn in your workshop feedback papers prior to departure.
